Friday, March 1st, we celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. We had several visitors to come and read to our class. We got to relax in our pjs and a indulge in a good book! We also made truffula trees from Dr. Seuss's book, The Lorax. It was a great relaxing day.
Pajama party and 100th day of school
Halloween
We had a great time on Halloween. On October 30, some of the friends from our class attended the Monster Mash. We had dressing up in our costumes and dancing to our favorite Halloween songs. The day of Halloween, many of the students dressed up in their costumes to school (including me). The kids had a wonderful time making things like skeletons, ghost pops, and much more. That afternoon, we had an ice-cream float party and watched The Magic School Bus Goes Batty.

WOW, what a jam-packed week. This week we have been studying place value, even and odd numbers, long vowels with a "sneaky silent e," main idea, and nonfiction text. Check out this silent e video. We absolutely love watching it!
The students started out looking at groups of pictures to determine the main idea. Throughout the week we were able to progress to reading numerous forms of text to figure out the main idea and supporting details.
In addition, this week and next week, we are exploring space. We had a wonderful first week learning about astronauts and life in space. This past week, we looked at facts about planets, Earth's moon, and the sun. the students chose a planet to write facts about, then made postcards from space and addressed them to a staff member within our school. We will be starting our nonfiction books about planets in the upcoming week. We are so excited!
August 20-24
August 13-17
This week we started math and reading. The students did a great job working in various centers and had a great time learning!
I am a 2nd grader!
On our fabulous first day of school, the students had their picture taken with our lovely "I am a 2nd grader" sign. Our first day of school read alouds were No David and David Goes to School. The kids loved it! Both books featured an out of control child. After we read both books, we used our character, David, to discuss what a peacemaker does vs what a peacebreaker does, which flowed right into going over our classroom rules and routines.
Everyone's favorite part of the day was "Magic Playdough." The students were told that if after playing with their white playdough it changed colors, they would have a great year in 2nd grade. Everyone's changed colors. Which means only one thing...
We are going to have a Great School Year in 2nd grade!
